Steam Box

On the Bridge.

The second picture from my 1961 visit to the Festiniog Railway. Here we see "Merddin Emrys" crossing the bridge on the approach to Tan Y Bwlch. It is interesting to note that the bridge was cast at the Railways' own foundry at Boston Lodge in 1854.

A nicely framed shot, and good to see this cabless double Fairlie.

A very interesting photo. I'll bet the crew would't be to happy in the most common of North Wales weather - rain, though! Not too safe for the driver [ or fireman! ] he looks very precarious on the side of the fire box! Question - Does a Fairlie have one or two fire doors? Further, if two are there two separate fireboxes? It's not occured to me before. Regards, Phil H. Leura. Oz.

Good question, Phil. Lets hope someone will tell us.
Regards, Vaughan.
