Festiniog Fairlies.
Submitted by vaughan on 26th February 2011
This was the first time I had visited the Festiniog Railway, the year was 1961. I cycled with a school chum from our homes in Coventry, to visit some of the narrow gauge lines in Wales. If I recall right we visited the Talyllyn, and the Vale of Rheidol as well. At this time the Festiniog terminated at Tan Y Bwlch. The loco on the left is the "Merddin Emerys". As can be seen, she was being run-in after an overhaul at their own workshops at Boston Lodge. The other Fairlie is the "Earl of Merioneth".

Are you sure the second loco is Earl of Merioneth? The current one was built in 1979 and I didn't think there was a Fairlie before it with that name?
Would it not have been Taliesin / Livingston Thompson?
Hello Ian,
Mmmmm..... You are probably right, It may well have been Taliesin.
To quote : "When you get to my age.....", the memory ain't so good.
