Flying Scotsman at Hatton.
Submitted by vaughan on 23rd November 2010
Back in the 80's, we see the Shakespeare Express returning from Stratford on Avon to Marylebone on a wet evening. The loco, "Flying Scotsman", nearly slipped to a stop on the wet rails as she climbed away from Hatton.
Although the stock is painted a rather grotty colour, the loco is in apple green and with a single chimney, and no smoke deflectors.
Some time later in the year I booked a trip from Marylebone to Stratford on the Shakespeare Express due to be pulled by "Flying Scotsman", with "Sir Lamiel" as stand-by loco. But due to both locos failing on the day (before we had even left London) the train had to be diesel hauled, we were not best pleased, but these things happen.

Some pretty black smke going on there!
Yes, she had just about slipped to a stop, but with the use of sanders, managed to get over the top of the bank.
