Steam Box

Its raining again

Another picture from Grandpa's box. 45647 is shown standing under the footbridge at Appleby West station. The crew appear to be having a natter whilst the goods trolley is being loaded (or unloaded) at the far end. The weather seems to be normal for the area. "Raining between the showers".
Unseen away to the left of this shot is the lovely old building of Appleby East station serving the line along the Eden Valley to Kirkby Stephen East and on up over Stainmore.

Nice photo Robbie, has all the atmosphere [ and rain ] of the old steam days. Perhaps I was lucky to have other interests so as not to see Jubilees reduced to hauling two or three coach trains. Whilst watching in the fifties they always hauled expresses, well maybe some hauled express parcels or fitted vans! Keep posting from your Grandpa's box. Hey, if these are from your Grandpa's photos, he must have been nearly my age when he took the photos - does that mean you are quite a young [ whipper ] snapper? Phil H. Leura. Oz.

Hi Phil
Sorry to be mis-leading but the gentleman I refer to as Grandpa was actually my late Father-in-law and was thus called by my now grown up kids and it just stuck. He would be in his 90s now and as for me, well, I like to think of myself as a 66 year old "big kid"who likes to go out and play round the railway with my mate Vaughan.
Kind Regards from the UK.
Oh. And its not raining today
Robbie
