Running about 30 minutes late, the "Duke of Gloucester" is seen heading the VSOE charter from London to Bristol on the 27th October 2010 at Crofton.
From the photographers point of view, the picture is spoilt by the insertion of a diesel loco between the Duke and the Pullman stock. As to why the diesel was there is not known.

I could be wrong, but I think most steam in the winter months has a diesel on for the heating in the carriages.
Hello - yes I'm sure Ian is right - HEP ! HEP ! Hurray for Head End Power! Sorry but I've been looking at too much American enthusuast railroad specials. Steam heat carriages must have gone out with the Ark ? Mk 1's or maybe Mk 2's ? So if your special in the Winter has older coaches you might be lucky. Stil VSOE is very commercial - not for the plebs of the railway world. Have a good day. Or as we say here G'day. Phil H. Leura.
Thanks for the info, gentlemen.
At least the Duke was in front!

PS Phil - I'll try and dig out an American enthusuast special for you!
