Out of Westbury

The "Duke of Gloucester" heads away from Westbury, and up the bank through Dilton Marsh with the returning Cathedrals Express, sometime in 2007.

That's a great shot, Vaughan - I'd love to be able to hear the crisp and sharp three cylindered Caprotti sound of her coming up that bank towards you. Phil H. oz.

Thanks Phil. She is an awesome machine. I remember that I only ever saw her once in my trainspotting days, and that was at Hillmorton, just south of Rugby. She was heading 'Up' on the "Mid-Day Scot". I did see here once after that, and she was a sad sight at Dai Woodham's scrap yard at Barry. But fortune smiled down on her and she was rescued and restored to the condition we see her now.
You talk about the three cylinder sounds, I will never forget the sounds of the Ex LNER 2-6-2 V2's starting out, and heading north from Rugby Central.
I know we are all getting older, but we still have those unforgettable memories that can never be repeated on today's heritage lines.
Regards,
Vaughan.
