Steam Box

Re-enactment

Taken on 10 February 2012

I had two very good days photography at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway Winter Steam Gala. The weather was very cold and overcast, but dry. There were a few issues with the timetable on Friday, due to the cold. Apparently the ‘buck-eye’ couplings failed to engage, so at least one train was cancelled.

This picture shows ex-LNWR Webb 'Coal Tank' no.58926 making its official debut at the event. It ran with 49191 (Bowen-Cooke 'G2a' no.49395) on Friday with the re-enactment of the last train from Abergavenny to Merthyr.

Hi Andy,
I think you are 'posting' while I am admiring your photos!
You do find some good locations - once again, great pictures.
I well remember the Bowen-Cooke 0-8-0's, they were regulars on the trip workings around Coventry, we nick-named them 'Duckie-8s' (they had a tendency to 'waddle' from side to side).
I have yet to see the Coal tank, I'll bet she looks great in BR livery.
Keep well,
Regards,
Vaughan.

Andy you are out there again. Hats of to you for all your pictures your album too.
Like Vaughan, we used to get more than one or two Duck 8's ( always wondered about why we called them Ducks plain to see now; when I think back, on our local line mostly hauling coal from the local pit and Cannock deep coal trains too.
Thanks for submiting these Andy well done
regards to All Ant

Hi
The waddling you describe was well demonstrated as the Super D left Oakworth ('Super D in the snow'). It moved so much I thought it would leave the track!
Regards Andy

I put the comments on this one as the coal tank was in the local castle railway museum(Penrhyn) ( built with money from the slave trade and the slate quarry in Bethesda) and there are Photos of it being unloaded there on our North Wales Railway Circle site in the gallery. As usual an excellent slide show from you on Picasa- congratulations.I have an almost unexpected trip on the arriva club 55 to lydney for the Dean Forest Rly.
so that will make up for the 'lost' w/e. Regards pete

Andy - All your KWVR shots are great, terriffic composition and thanks for sharing with us a wonderful set of photos. All I can say is " More please!" I hope you didn't get too cold. My regards, Phil H. Leura. Oz.

Hi Andy - [ again ] I have had a look on 'You tube' as you sugested for videos on the KWVR Winter Gala 2012 - there are several. They show even more the hardship you endured. It looked bl - - dy cold! I doubt the welders torch could be lit for all those poor 'sans balls' brass monkeys! Thanks for the ' You Tube' sugestion, there is a great clip of the 4F working hard. Regards, phil H.
