The REAL Scotsman!

I've called this "The REAL Scotsman!" as I think this is how she should look - no smoke deflectors, single chimney, and LNER apple green. I know it's the old addage of, "It's mine, and I'll paint it whatever colour I like", but I'll stick to my beliefs.
She is seen at Ribblehead with the up Cumbrian Mountain Express in the summer of, I believe, 1982.

A classic Vaughan.

With the recent potential change of policy by the NRM for Flying Scotsman, we may yet see the single chimney return and smoke deflectors removed. I've also read somewhere that BR green as well as LNER apple green is a possibility with single chimney too.

You are right though. This is how 4472 should be.

Hi Ian,
I've no problem with BR green, well, she did carry that livery for long enough.

Hi - This is a great photo Vaughan, real film no doubt as well! I agree she should be in either this livery or BR green. It's doubtful if many are alive that saw her in this livery in real service though! Even if she was repainted into it before January 1948 you'd have to be well into ones eighties! Regards from Phil H. Leura. Oz.

Hi Vaughan
A great picture, an iconic locomotive in an iconic location. You are correct about how 'Flying Scotsman' should look. However I person don’t mind how she looks, with or without deflectors, just as she is in the correct livery for that period. I spent my ‘spotting days’ seeing A3’s in both guises (but not in LNER colours, I’m not that old!).
Regards Andy
