Sea Lion to the Zoo?
Railways in beautiful locations don't come any better than this.
We are on the Isle of Man in the summer of 2009, on the 2 ft gauge Groudle Glen Railway. The locomotive is a 2-4-0 named "Sea Lion", she was built for the opening of the railway in 1896. The railway runs for about 3/4 mile from Lhen Coan station to Sea Lion Rocks, where a zoo was located. It is believed that at the onset of the last war the animals were released, (I wonder - but I'm sure I saw some lions and tigers and kangeroos and elephants, and .....).
Well, anyway, the zoo is not there anymore.
I do recall that when we arrived at the railway that morning it was wall to wall torrential rain, and we were just about to give up, when a small patch of blue appeared on the horizon, so we waited and, low and behold, the weather changed to what you see in the picture.
