Steam Box

A V2 for Pete.

Here's one for Pete. Well he did say that the V2's were one of his favorite locos.
Leaving Banbury on her way to Marylebone in London is 4771 "Green Arrow".
From what I understand, she is in the NRM at York, and in pretty poor internal condition, and is unlikely to steam again, more's the pity.

Vaughan- Thanks for this post, I appreciate it,
An unexpected Christmas present! I have some of Green Arrow at the ELR ,I'll have to have another look at them.
Kind Regards and best wishes to your family, Pete

Hi Vaughan
You are correct about 'Green Arrow'. She has a cracked monobloc cylinder casting, which is apparently beyond repair. This was a inherent weakness with these fine engines, so much so that they were been gradually rebuilt to incorporate separate cylinder blocks. A lot of the class were modified in the 1940's and 1950's.
She currently sits around the turntable, in the great hall.
Regards Andy

Not necessarily so. There is continual talk (and some of it from people within the NRM) that the monobloc may be repairable and if not, there are other options with more modern techniques now being available for new castings.

Personally, I would like to see the monobloc exhibited as it is by itself and a replacement casting (in whatever form that would practically be best) made so we can see 4771 running again.

Green Arrow is a particularly popular loco. I don't see it running again in the near future, but I wouldn't bet on it never steaming again.

There is even talk that the 3 cylinder 2-6-4 tank loco (2500) from the Fenchurch Street line my be restored.
Now that would be nice to see that on the main line.
Vaughan.
